Based on the research of the GmGBP1 over expression in tobacco plants, the experimental results showed that this gene promoted yellowing of the plant,inhibited cotyledon development, and increased hypocotyl elongation. Moreover, the study on GUS staining driven by GmGBP1 promoter in transgenic Arabidopsis showed that GmGBP1 promoter was strongly induced by dark, which in common indicated that GmGBP1 gene could be involved in skoto- morphogenesis.
