Tourist flow is one of the core issues of tourism geography research and the basis for developing tourism industry. This paper summarizes the inbound tourism flows, domestic tourism and outbound tourism flows research contents into six aspects. According to the paper, the major progress of China' s tourist flow research is as follows: 1)Forming a consensus on the definition of tourist flows concept; 2)The tourist flow has become an important research field of Tourism Geography, formed domestic tourist flows and inbound tourism flows in the two academic research camps; 3)Time distribution characteristics and its causes of in-bound tourism flow have been made clearly; 4)The spatial distribution characteristics and macro-metastasis of the inbound tourism flow and domestic tourist flow are basically understood; 5)Revealing that the origin' s spatial distribution pattern is the determinants of distance decay curve of tourist flows; 6)Proposing that the "recreational belt around metropolis" is the basic form of travel space of the city tourists; 7)Revealing that the economy is the main driving force of domestic tourist flows, tourism resources are the main driving force of domestic tourist flows in space allocation, the hierarchical structure of tourism gathering field and diffusion field are affected by market principles; 8)Proposing the spatial structure model of tourist flows. But China's tourist flow study still has the following deficiencies:l)Particular stress laid on empirical analysis, making light of theory research; 2)Emphasis on tourist flow research, neglecting information flow, logistics, culture flow, trade flow research; 3)Research on outbound tourist flow is relatively weak; 4)The space-time evolution of tourism flow, influencing factors and evolutionary mechanisms on the national scale does not re-vealed; 5)Lacking of research on international tourist flows; 6)Lacking of innovation in research methods. Future research should excavate the content deeply, focus o
