Knowledge network is a kind of inter-connected network that is born in the process of diffusion and communication of knowledge by the actors who create, transfer, absorb and apply knowledge, such as enterprises, universities, organizations and institutions. This paper at first reviews the research progress of knowledge network, and points out that the further research fields are: the geographical space scale of knowledge network, the calculation of no-geographical .distance, and the evolution mechanisms of knowledge network. Then takes knowledge network as the research perspective, Nanjing as the case study area, statistical data of the papers published in cooperation about the chemical industry in the database of Chinese Scientific and Technical Journals (Journal of Chongqing VIP) methods of social network analysis in New Economic Sociology, as the data source. Based on the theory and we use UCINET and TransCAD to analyze the organizational and spatial structure of knowledge network of Nanjing ,;heroical industry, and its impact on the knowledge flows. This study reveals: colleges/ universities play a leading role in 1) the the knowledge network is a loose multi-core network, knowledge exchange; 2) in the national level the and spatial distribution of knowledge network is denser in North China and sparser in South China. In the Yangtze Delta level the nodes of knowledge network are concentrate on Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and other cities which along the railway line between Shanghai and Nanjing; 3) the impact of geographical distance on knowledge flows still exist. And the impact of social distance on knowledge flows cannot be ignored. Generally, the denser of the knowledge network, the more effective of the link efficiency. Finally this study provides some advice to the Government for policy making of high-tech industry clusters and regional science and technology development.
