A new chelating resin( XAD- H2Dz) was synthesized by coupling Amberlite XAD-2 functionalized with dithizone (H2Dz) through a --N=N- group, characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and infrared (IR) spectra, and was used to on-line minicolumn field sampling (MFS)technique. Trace lead in environmental water samples was preconcentrated in site and determined by flow injection-flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FI-FAAS). The enrichment factors of 78 and 384 were obtained for 10 and 50 mL of sampling volumes, respectively, and the detection limit (3σ) was 0.32 and 0.079 μg/L, respectively, and relative standard deviation ( n = 7) was 2.0% and 1.9% at the same conditions, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the determination of lead in the certified reference materials (GBW (E)080040, GBW08608) and in environmental water samples from the Dalian Lahutan and the South lake, the result was satisfactory.
