Mo(CO)6 performed good catalytic activity of the cyclotrimerization of terminal- or intemalalkynes as well as the alkynes with either electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups to form trisubstituted or hexasubstituted benzene derivatives. The effect of solvent and amount of catalyst on the yield of benzene derivatives were investigated, indicating that the reaction proceeded smoothly in toluene with 15% Mo(CO)6.
