Social evaluation is an important way of society participation and it is the unity of inner logic and outer needs of university governance. in university governance, Social evaluation involves in university governance is beneficial for the balance of power structure between government and university, and urges government＇s management style from direct regulation to macro management~ it is helpful to alleviate the contradiction between universities and social needs, and prompts universities effectively focus on society needs~ it is also beneficial to guide fair competition among universities, and urges universities from disorderly competition to win-win situation. Social evaluation can be involved in university governance by quality evaluation of stakeholders, university rankings by news and network media and institutions or discipline certification of social intermediary organizations. We should strengthen the important role of social evaluation in university governance by positive transformation of government functions, strengthening the construction of educational legal system, and fostering the cultural environment of multiple evaluation subjects in higher education.
