Musicality is an indispensable element of poetry, contributing not just to a poem 5 s aesthetic effect, but also to the transmission of its connotative meaning. The close connection between musicality and connotation is therefore a significant factor for poetry translation. A translator must try to rehabilitate the musicality of the original if he wishes to bring its connotation to life. This paper expounds the musicality principle in poetry translation by elaborating how such rehabilitation can be possible in the course of translating The Lake Isle of Innisfree, one of W. B. Yeats’ early poems.
