The high capacity lithium-ion battery has excellent performance, and only accurate estimation of the SOC can make it work in the optimal state and improve economic efficiency. In order to improve SOC estimation accuracy, some ways in SOC estimation were summarized, including discharge test, ampere hour measurement, open circuit voltage, Kalman filtering, artificial neural network and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The principles of SOC estimation methods were introduced. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods during applications were discussed.
