Describing the social dilemma of selfish individuals by stag-hunt game, this paper examines the effect of spatial structure on cooperative behavior. Mean-field theory is used to analyze the evolutionary equilibrium for those individuals who interact randomly, and agent-based simulation experiment is implemented to explore the evolution of behaviors for individuals locating on spatial regular lattices with four different neigh-borhood sizes. The theoretical and numerical results show that the effect of spatial structure on cooperative behavior depends on the defect temptation in the game. When 'the defect temptation is small, spatial structure has positive effect on the evolution of cooperative behavior. However, with the increase of defect temptation the positive effect of spatial structure on cooperative behavior changes gradually to the negative one.
