mRNA localization is a mechanism for post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression and plays an important role in cellular activities including differentiation and development. In budding yeast, the localization of ASH1 mRNA results in asymmetric expression of its corresponding protein, thus inhibiting the mating type switch in the daughter cells. This review introduces the mechanism of ASH1 mRNA localization in budding yeast.
