A simple toy model of materials based on optical black hole analogue metamarterials is studied. A simple formula for the refractive index is given, and the light trajectories in the metamaterials are studied. The ca- ses that correspond to solutions in general relativity are better than those based on artificial structures in applications such as optical cloaking and solar cells.
