The authors studied the crystalline morphologies of poly(ε-capmlactone)(PCL) having different relative molecular mass and PCL in different compatible blending systems by means of polarized light microscope(PLM). The influence of relative molecular mass on the crystalline morphology of PCL homopolymer, and the effects of the second component, composition of the blends and crystallization temperature on the crystalline morphology of PCL in compatible blends were studied. The results show that the higher the relative molecular mass of PCL, the smaller the size of the formed spherulite. The second component farm's the formation of PCL ring-banded spherulite. The regularity of the ring-banded spherulite so formed is dependent upon the matching relationship between the crystalline rate of PCL and the diffusion rate of the amorphous component in the blends. The higher the matching degree, the higher the regularity of the ring- banded spherulite. The relative molecular mass of PCL has little impact on the crystalline morphology of the blending system but can influence the size of the ring-banded spherulite in compatible blending systems.
