Based on the investigation into rural civil residences in Hunan Province, this paper makes a statistical analysis of structure form, foundation form, main building materials, regional distrbution and building costs of civil residence, and conducts a comparison of the situation of typical rural civil residence at the Dongting Lake area foreand-after devastating freezing-hazard event, which indicates that rural residences in the province is of low costs, various structure forms, irregular qualities, and weak disaster-resistances.
