The Fawn-Hooded（FH/Wjd） rat is one of the FH inbred strain.Considered as an ideal animal model for the study of heavy drinking,the FH/Wjd rats exhibit several characteristics,including excessive voluntary intake of alcohol（〉5 g·kg-1·d-1）,high preference to ethanol（〉65%）,significant alcohol deprivation reaction,as well as easily established operational self-administration drinking behavior.Furthermore,the hypo-function of 5-HT in the central nervous system makes the FH/Wjd rats behave quite specially in animal behavioral tests.For example,the FH/Wjd rats show noticeable immobility in the forced swimming test,similar to features in the depression animal model.Thus,the FH/Wjd rats can serve as an animal model for studies on depression.
