Zintl phase is a kind of promising thermoelectric materials, meeting the concept of "electron crystalphonon glass", the anions of which provide the "electron crystal" electronic structure to control electric conductivity, and the cations provide the "phonon glass" structure to control thermal conductivity. Several Zintl phase materials with good thermoelectric performance are described in detail, and several potential approaches are proposed to improve their thermoelectric performance. The development trend and application prospect of Zintl phase materials are simply discussed in the end.
