Continuous efforts in the research and development of low-cost dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC) , which utilize innovative light-harvesting dyes and electrolytes in conjunction with a high-quality mesoporous semiconducting film show promise as a source for future renewable energy supplies, despite the looming depletion of fossil fuels. In 2008 Chinese scientists had made great progress, which would foster the large-scale production and application of dye-sensitized solar cells.
