Receptors and transporters such as transferrin receptor, low density lipoprotein receptor and glucose transporter are found expressed on the blood-brain barrier. Funetionalization of drug delivery systems with ligands or antibodies of these receptors or transporter can enable brain to enhance drug delivery, improve treatment efficiency and reduce adverse effects. Besides, brain drug delivery can also be facilitated via absorption-mediated transcytosis or following intranasal administration.
