Data resolution has an important effect on modeling the earth＇ s gravity field and the accuracy of the geoid. The relation between least square collocation and data resolution is discussed based on the form in frequency domain of the principle of least mean square error. General formulas of optimal linear estimation and its error depending on data resolution are given. The example shows that the results are consistent with those from traditional collocation.
