A discussion was made on the development of sodium based battedes(SBBS), such as the Na/S battery, the Na/NiCl_2 battery and the Sodium ion battery. The advantages and problems of the SBBS in the application were also analyzed. The future of the application of SBBS in the energy storage of Power grid was outlooked. To meet the energy storage of large scale powder grid,the further improving of the performance of SBBS and the lower of the cost of energy storage were suggested
