In this paper, we analyzed the information of the Nobel prize in physiology or medicine and chemistry for the past twenty years （1989 -2008）. The prize-winning achievements were categorized into five aspects, including gene expression regulation and gene technology, the molecular mechanism of cell cycle and apoptosis, the molecular mechanism of cellular signal transduetion, the mechanism of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation and studies on pathogens. It will help to understand the advances in life sciences during recent two decades.
