The palladium acetate-catalyzed synthesis of benzophenone in the mixture of water and PEG was described. Compared with the previous methods in organic systems, catalytic efficiency of Pd(OAc)2-H2O-PEG was higher, which TONs ( turnover numbers) were up to 2.5 × 10^4 . Pd( OAc)2-H2 O-PEG was active, air stable, recyclable, and avoiding the use of expensive and environmentally unfavorable phosphine ligand. So it is a desired green medium of synthesis of benzophenone.
