This paper illustrates the architecture of the distributed computing model-Web Services, and discusses implementation an extensible,robust and highly efficient distributed GIS application using some open sources of technology such as Struts and Hibernate, providing a new throughway for integrating GIS and other systems. Finally, the paper introduces a practical example of the project ＂Hefei Digital Map Portal＂.
