The cucurbit[n]urils （CB[n]s） were a kind of cyclic methylene-linked glycoluril oligomers. The rigid structure and capability of forming stable complexes with molecules and ions made CB[n]s a useful candidate in the fields of environment, medication and materials and so on. The research progress of CB[n]s complex of alkali metal ions, transition metal ions, and trivalence thulium ions were reviewed. Furthermore, the potential development of the research on CB[n]s was prospected.
