The treatment of Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O with one equivalent of pyridine 3,5-dicarboxylic acid (3,5-H2pydc) in ethanol solution in the presence of base NH3·H2O affords a two-dimensional coordination polymer [Zn (3,5-pydc)(H2O)2], (1). Whereas the interaction of Zn (CH3COO)2-2H2Owith trans-1,2-bis (4- pyridyl)ethylene (bpe) in a similar condition gives a one-dismensional coordination polymer [Zn(CH3COO)2 (bpe)]n(2).
