Ischemic preconditioning （IPC） has been demonstrated to be a novel therapeutic approach for intestinal ischemia/reperfusion （I/R） injury, which is described as a episode of brief intermittent repetitive interruption at the onset of reperfusion after prolonged period of ischemia. Although it has been indicated that IPC can generate a definite and distinguished intestinal protective effect on intestinal I/R injury, its mechanism is not completely elucidated. This review focuses on the progress in researches of IPC against intestinal ischemic/reperfusion injury.
