Regeneration of China has always been one of the themes in Pearl S. Buck＇s novels. She embraced Social Gospel as one of the strategies for Chinese regeneration and called on the idea of social service in the younger generation. She insisted that Chinese intellectuals should get closer to the common people and strive for a gradual regeneration. Her Social Gospel receded from Christianity in its development and its secularization can be clearly traced in her novels like The Young Revolutionist, Pavilion of Women and Kinfolk.
