Nitric oxide synthase plays an important role in the process of coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. Nitric oxide synthase has three subtypes: Neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS or NOS 1), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS or NOS 3), and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS or NOS 2). In the past, only eNOS was thought to be involved in the regulation of vascular function, however, many recent findings suggest that nNOS expresses in vascular endothelial and plays an important role in the cardiovascular system. Activation of nNOS can produce NO, H2O2 and other substances to adjust the signaling pathway of non-neuronal cells. This article will focus on the research progress of nNOS in coronary heart disease.
