Functional Gene Array (FGA) is a cutting-edge microarray technology for rapid, sensitive, and high-throughput detection of environmental samples, which encodes the genes of physiological functions of all microorganisms as the probe. Recently, FGA has been developed to such a degree that it was applied in the researches on the ecology of soil microorganisms. This technology has offered great information about the structure and function of soil microorganism community under different ecological systems and pollution stresses. The development of FGA is beneficial to the understanding of the detailed micro-ecological process and describing the ecological functional networks of microorganisms, which provides the theoretical basis for the prediction of response of microbial community to the environmental stress.
