The temporal-spatial distribution characteristics of the total, high, medium and low cloud cover over the East China Sea are analyzed based on the ISCCP monthly mean D2 data from January 1999 to December2009. The results show that the high value area margin of low cloud cover distributes along the coast throughout all seasons and significant temporal-spatial distribution difference exists among the total, medium and high cloud cover. It is noted that in summer, especially in June, the high cloud cover constitutes an important part in the total, while the low and medium cloud cover plays a leading role in spring, autumn and winter. Further analysis indicates that the diurnal variation form of each cloud cover is relatively stable, although their changing trends are disparate.
