Ammonia borane has been considered as a promising candidate material for hydrogen storage due to its very large hydrogen storage. The pyrolysis temperature of ammonia broane can be lower and the rate of hydrolysis can be faster with metal catalysts, the key factor influencing the hydrogen generation of ammnia borane. The metal catalysts catalyzing ammnia borane to generate hydrogen most used or under research such as noble metal catalysts, the composite catalysts of noble and nonoble metals and nonoble metal catalysts were reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of the catalysts were compared. The research results of the reactions mechanisms were summarized. The obtained research results were evaluated, and the development trend of the hydrogen storage technology was pointed out.
