Detailed classification of image processing technology of high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM) is done. The necessity of HREM combining image processing technology in determining the crystal structure is analyzed. The three image processing technologies are discussed. Some successful applications of these technologies in materials science are introduced. The application range, foreground and limit of image processing technology are described lastly.
