Data envelopment analysis （DEA） was used to evaluate county area ecological efficiency in 18 counties of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region from 2006 to 2010. The results showed that the eco-effieiencies of most counties in Ningxia Hui autonomous Region have been improved except for Yinchuan city. The results also showed that the differences between counties is existent, such as Lingwu, Yanchi and Pengyang county rised constantly, Wuzhong and Qingtongxia county declined constantly, and other cities and counties increased firstly and then dropped. The eco-efficiency shows a ladder-like distribution in the space, it is highest in northern region of Ningxia, the southern part is lowest, the middle Dart is in intermediate level.
