Riparian zone is an area extending from two edges of a river to where influence of the fiver disappears. As interleaving region between river and land ecological systems, riparian zone is an important transitional region for them to exchange substance, energy and information. Nowadays non - point pollution is becoming more and more serious, people are paying more attention on riparian zone, because of its obvious function in controlling non - point pollution and purifying water. Because of its special location, it has some other ecological functions: protecting bio - diversity, corridor function, consolidating river - bank, economical function, landscape value and so on. Nowadays, studying riparian zone from macro- , mid- and micro- scales has been progressing and needing further research. Also, restoration and rebuilding of degraded riparian ecosystem is becoming more and more important for riparian to act its ecological functions.
