Malaria is one of the worlds most common parasitic diseases. It seriously harms human health and affects social and economic development. Plasmodium vivax malaria is the most widespread form of malaria; it can readily recur and it is difficult to cure. The resistance of P. vivax to chloroquine and other drugs seriously affects the effective prevention and control of malaria. Thus, monitoring genes that confer drug resistance to P. vivax and phenotypic changes in that bacterium is crucial. This paper reviews recent advances in the study of the drug resistance genes of P. vivax.
