In Huanghua(黄骅)dialect(in Hebei(河北)Province), there are two forms of first singular pronoun: wo(我)and An(俺). The two forms are not different from each other in syntactic behaviors, but it can be seen that wo(我)is objective and An(俺) is subjective. This distinction is similar to that of wu(吾)and wo(我)in Old Chinese: Wu(吾) was a subjective pronoun and wo(我)was an objective pronoun. Wo(我) has been used through the history of the Chinese language, but Wu(吾) was not used after Han(汉)Dynasty, An(俺)was introduced into Chinese during the period of Early Modern Chinese, probably due to language contact, and it obtained subjectivity over time. The distinction of subjective form and objective form in pronouns and other similar phenomena show that subjectivity and objectivity are two very prominent categories that are often encoded in Chinese.
