The microtubular organelles in the cortical ciliature of soil ciliate Pattersoniella vitiphila were visualized by flutax direct fluorescent labeling. It was found that the anterior longitudinal microtubules and the posterior longitudinal microtubules were located in the basal part of frontal cirri, the radiate microtubules accured in transfer cirri and ventral cirri, and the transfer cirri also contained posterior longitudinal microtubules. Anterior longitudinal microtubules were discovered in the basal part of transverse cirri. The anterior longitudinal microtubules, posterior longitudinal microtubules, transeverse microtubules, radiate microtubules and sprout microtubules were visualized in the basal part of marginal cirri. The anterior longitudinal microtubules and posterior longitudinal microtubules were settled in the basal part of dorsal cirri. The result shows that the characteristic of microtubular structure of P. vitiphila was an adaption of soil environment, and it was first reported that ven- tral cirri only contains radiate microtubules in the basal part.
