Based on gravelly soil core material and filter material anti-permeability research results from China and elsewhere, the anti-permeability properties of gravelly soil are compared with the combined anti-permeability properties gravelly soil core material and filter material. The impermeability mechanism, impermeability law, progress in anti-permeability models, and filter criteria for gravelly soil are discussed and summarized. Key points for further research in this field are proposed.
