The paper suggested a simple and convenient method to improve the sensitivity in electrochemical determination of phenols at the GC electrode. By using the surfactant of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide are cetyl pyridinium chloride, the electrochemical responses of dihydroxy-benzene, dinitrophenol and naphthol are enhanced significantly. The action mechanism was studied, the optimum conditions in detection have also been investigated, and some valuable messages were obtained which would be useful in the determination of phenols and substituted phenols.
