The Visual MODFLOW (VMOD) was adopted for a numerical simulation of the groundwater system dynamics in the Wuwei Basin. The groundwater dynamics under the planned water allocation scenario till 2020 was computed by the calibrated model, showing a satisfactory efficiency of the model calibration for the area. VMOD's application for determining the impact of implementing water allocation scenario resulted in a continuous declination of groundwater level at the top alluvial-proluvial fan in the piedmont area, where the surface and underground water mixed irrigation dominated. In the year of 2020, an overall improvement in the groundwater level would appear. The main area of rising groundwater level would move from the middle to the southeast part of the basin, which will benefit the recovery of the underground water system and the local spring maintenance in the basin.
