There is a tendency of putting more emphasis on archaeology than literature in academic discussions of the shape and style about Zun Yi of birds and beasts image in Zhou Rituals,which is mainly shown in denying the records of carved wooden drawing with unearthed pictographic Zun Yi.In fact,some unearthed Zun Yi are carved with pattern of birds and beasts,confirming the correctness of the literature like Zhuangzi,notes by Zheng Xuan,etc.,which deserves attention.In the research about ancient history,archaeological materials are undoubtedly essential evidence.However,they are short in being fragmented,especially before they are fully interpreted or when they are contradicted with the literature.So it is necessary to take a serious attitude in both theory and methodology,and avoid denying the literature flatly.
