It has to consume a lot of fuels to gain and maintain hypersonic cruise speed. An optimal speed of hypersonic cruise flights is obtained through analyzing the relations to the flight parameters. Comparison of the performances between hypersonic cruise flight and minimum-energy ballistic trajectory under the same flight distance shows that hypersonic cruise missiles based on rocket engines are very competitive at the current stage.
