Subphthalocyanine can be synthesized by many different methods, and the various kinds of its derivatives can also be prepared by incorporation of diverse functional groups in peripheral or axial position. These functional groups make them attractive compounds with better chemical stability, nonlinear optical, electronic properties and so on. The synthesis of subphthalocyanine and its derivatives are outlined in this paper.
