[Objective]The correlationship between somatic cell count (SCC) and antioxidant parameters was analyzed so as to provide scientific references for milk quality monitoring and healthy breeding of dairy buffalo.[Method]A total of 139 dairy buffalo cows were randomly chosen from one buffalo farm in Nanning.Milk and blood samples of each buffalo were collected simultaneously.Milk SCC was analyzed by FOSS instrument, and the serum and whey contents of total antioxidant capacity(TAC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were detemined using Ferric Reducing Ability of Serum(FRAP) method and Thiobarbituric acid (TBA) method, respectively.[Result]Out of the tested 139 buffaloes,12.23% of buffalo cows had milk SCC ≥50.00×104/mL (as diagnostic criterion for subclinical mastitis),the remainder 87.77% of buffalo had SCC < 50.00× 104/mL.Serum and milk content of TAC were 2.44±1.04 and 3.78±1.68 U/mL,respectively.Those of MDA were 2.07±0.48 and 1.55±0.52 nmol/mL,respectively.Both TAC and MDA had very significant differences between blood and milk (P<0.01).Milk serum content of TAC clearly decreased with milk SCC increase.A significant negative correlation existed between milk TAC content and milk SCC(r=-0.168,P<0.05).There was a significant positive correlation between blood MDA and milk MDA(r=0.189,P<0.05).An extraordinary significant positive correlation was found between blood TAC and blood MDA (r=0.391,P<0.01),and also between blood TAC and milk MDA (r=0.315,P<0.01).[Conclusion]Milk TAC content can be used as an alternative parameter for monitoring buffalo udder health and milk quality in future.
