Based on the triaxial compression tests of sandstone under constant confining pressures, the stress-strain curves under different confining pressures were obtained. It was considered that the volumetric strain in the compression process was composed of the elastic volumetric strain of matrix materials and the volumetric strain of cracks. The variations of the volumetric strain of cracks along with stress and strain in the compression process were gained by calculation and then the evolution laws of cracks were gained.
