3,4-Dihydropyrimidin-2( 1H)-ones and their derivatives were synthesized in high yields by one-pot threecomponent Beginelli condensation reactions of aldehydes,ethyl acetoacetate or acetylacetone,urea or thiourea in the presence of catalytic amounts of poly( ethylene glycol)-supported benzene sulfonic acid in ethanol at reflux temperature. This method has such advantages as high yield,short reaction time and simple manipulation. The catalyst is also found to exhibit reusable activity.
