The filtration and ingestion rates ofDaphnia magna were measured to evaluate the potential impact ofn-alkyl chains of ionic liquids on the aquatic environment. The results showed that the toxicity to D. magna increased with the increasing of n-alkyl chain length and the LC50 of ionic liquids ranged from 49 to 15 326μg/L. Furthermore, the filtration and ingestion rates ofD. magna significantly decreased when exposed to n-alkyl chains of ionic liquids compared to the control. And at the highest concentration of ionic liquids the filtration rate and ingestion rate decreased from 60% to 84% when compared with the control groups. Our results indicate that the ionic liquids have potential risk to the aquatic environment if they enter water body Fig 1, Tab 1, Ref25
