目的廓清《农学报》（1897年）之前综合性期刊中关于近代西方农学知识的传播脉络，清理西方农学在中国引进演变的轨迹。方法通过统计分析考证和比较法，全面调查《农学报》之前晚清综合性期刊中涉及农学知识的文献。结果《东西洋考每月统记传》《中西闻见录》和《万国公报》最早刊载了《推农务之会》《英国农器》《英国农政》《农事要策》等文，后来以《格致汇编》《时务报》《知新报》3份期刊的农学报道最为集中。结论西方传教士与中士所办综合性期刊对西方农学的报道，先于《农学报》59年即有单篇文章，后有“农事”专栏，并间接催生了之后《农学报》专业期刊的诞生，在中国农学史和中国新闻事业史上具有划时代意义。
英文摘要：
Aim To clarify sequences of knowledge about western agriculture in modern times, which were contained in comprehensive journals before the publication of Agricultural Journal （1897s）. Methods Using statistical analyzing and researching, and comparison methods, comprehensively surveying those literatures related to knowledge of agriculture in comprehensive journals in late Qing Dynasty before Agricultural Journal. Results Tui Nong Wu Zhi Hui, English Agricultural Device, English Agricultural Administration, and Nong Shi Yao Ce were firstly published in Eastern and Western Monthly Magazine, Zhong Xi Wen Jian Lu, and Wan Guo Gong Bao. And most of the agricultural articles were contained in Ge Zhi Hui Bian, Shi Wu Bao and Zhi Xin Bao. Conclusion Articles contained in comprehensive journals. Which were sponsored by western and Chinese missionaries. Firstly published the western agricultural knowledge in 1838s, long before the publication of Agricultural Journal, and then ＂Agriculture＂ column were started to appear in those journals. The Agricultural Journal was promoted by the publication of those comprehensive journals in some indirect ways, which have an epoch-making significance in the history of Chinese agriculture and journalism.
