Long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs)are widely found in human cells and involve in vital life processes of gene expression, epigenetic regulation and X-chromosome inactivation. They are suggested to be closely related to tumorigenesis and growth suppression. The review focuses on the role of lncRNA in cancer cell growth and metabolism.A growing body of evidence suggests that lncRNA regulates cancer cell growth by promoting or inhibiting cell cycle. In addition, the review includes how lncRNA affects epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)-mediated cell migration, and how lncRNA functions as a regulator in the glucose and lipid metabolism in tumor cells.
