The yeast-like symbiotes （YLS） in brown planthoppers （BPH）, Nilaparvata lugens Stal, were absolutely necessary for the growth, fecundity, and the resistance to the pesticides of BPH. Recent research results related to the interaction of YLS and BPH are summarized. The feasibility, prospect and some problems of the application of symbiotes in the management of the BPH are analyzed.
