Bipolar disorder is a recurrent illness. The breaking out of different emotion forms can generate lasting destructive effects on the psychology,occupation and social welfare of patients. Additionally, bipolar depression is a serious disabling disease. Not easy to be distinguished from unipolar depression,bipolar depression is easy to be misdiagnosed,which causes serious burden to patients and society. Depressive symptoms are the main characteristic of bipolar disorder. The suicide rate is higher in the stage of bipolar disorder and the patients in this stage should be paid more attention. In this paper,the research progress of the characteristics,harm and drug treatment of bipolar depression is reviewed to provide references for the further study of bipolar depression.
